if there’s a solution to this, please give me simple instructions. i’m a college freshman and i’m tech stupid. I don’t know hardly anything about computers. i have anger issues so let’s just say it, uh… caused a great deal of distress to me. it then suggested i try “import raw data” which turned the file into this blank audio track with nothing on it. Use the File > Open command to open Audacity Projects.” obviously i did that and it still wouldn’t work. When selecting it from “Recent Projects”, it gave me this message: “(etc, etc…) is an Audacity Project file. yet when i turned the computer back on and rebooted audacity, it was clear the file became corrupted as it wouldn’t open through any method. however, i made the choice to quickly save (Ctrl+S) my project before shutting it off. then, my cursor stopped working and couldn’t be fixed with any of the online solutions so i had no choice but to turn my computer off.

I’ve been working on a song recording/mix for days and it was turning out really well. this is extremely important to me and i really need some help on this. Assuming you can automate parameters in Audacity.I know there have been posts like this in the past, but i haven’t been able to find a solid answer or “fix” from any of them. If Audacity doesn't allow you to do the second bit, or if it's a bit tricky, you could manually record and edit automation of the wet/dry mix. You would probably need an envelope follower or a gate or something with side-chain capabilities, and you would need to do some routing. You could isolate the most active frequencies from the conversation, and use it as a 'side-chain' to control the wet/dry mix of the mid/side EQ. If you are capable, you could refine this more. This will leave you with a stereo file with most mono information in tact. I would use a Mid/Side EQ to attenuate the specific frequencies from the mid channel.

I would instead use a more subtle approach. drums, low frequencies, orchestra, main vocals, etc.

As I don't know what the recording is like, this could be a lot of information. I don't think you want to use Simon Bosley's solution for this situation because if you do, you will be left with a mono track with any similar information attenuated or completely missing.
